How is the live chat list sorted?

Written by Connor Bearse

The live chat bar in Sydnee is now organized by conversation type and by your personal layout. It keeps channels, direct messages, and client account chats in one place while making the conversations that need attention easier to spot.

What you will see in the sidebar

  • Needs attention: A temporary section for conversations that need quick follow-up, like a new direct message or a mention.

  • Channels: Shared team conversations and workstreams.

  • Direct messages: One-to-one conversations.

  • Accounts: Default client account group chats.

How sorting works

Each section has its own sort menu. You can sort a section by:

  • A-Z

  • Recency

  • Priority

Default sorting:

  • Channels start in A-Z.

  • Direct messages start in Recency.

  • Accounts start in Priority.

  • Custom sections start in A-Z.

A few details to know:

  • Needs attention is temporary. When a conversation is surfaced there, it is not permanently moved out of its saved section.

  • In Accounts, pinned accounts stay above unpinned accounts.

  • Priority sorting favors conversations with unread activity or more urgent follow-up signals.

How to customize the live chat bar

  • Move a conversation or account from its row menu into a custom section.

  • Use Manage Section to rename a custom section or add an icon.

  • Use Reorder Sections to change the order of your sections.

  • Collapse sections to keep your sidebar focused.

Your layout is personal and saves automatically, so other team members can organize their live chat bar differently.

Quick actions from the conversation menu

From a conversation row menu, you can:

  • Change notification settings.

  • Leave a channel.

Notification options include:

  • Every new message

  • @mentions only

  • Mute this conversation

@mentions only is available for channels and account chats, but not for direct messages.

Why your sidebar may look different

  • Your workspace may not have Channels or Direct messages enabled.

  • If portal chat is disabled for your workspace, the Accounts section will not show client account conversations.

  • Custom sections are personal, so the live chat bar can look different from one Sydnee user to another.

Need more help?

If you are missing conversations or a section does not look right, check your live chat settings or ask a workspace admin to confirm your workspace's live chat access.
