You can control exactly how clients interact with files and folders using Client Access settings. This allows you to decide whether clients can manage files or only view them.

Each folder has its own access setting, giving you fine-grained control.

Client Access Options

There are three access levels you can assign to a folder:

Full Access

Clients can:

  • Upload files

  • Rename files

  • Delete files

  • Create folders

Use this when clients are actively collaborating or contributing files.

View Only

Clients can:

  • View files

  • Download files

Clients cannot:

  • Upload files

  • Delete files

  • Rename files

  • Create folders

  • Star files

This is ideal for read-only deliverables or final assets.

Hidden

  • The folder is completely hidden from clients.

  • Clients will not:

    • See the folder

    • See files inside it

    • See a link to the folder

Important Notes About Hidden Folders

  • Folder visibility is not recursive.

  • Any folders inside a hidden folder still have their own permissions.

  • You must explicitly set child folders to hidden if needed.

Starred Files & Hidden Folders

There are a few important behaviors to be aware of:

  • Files that are starred inside a hidden folder:

    • Will not appear in:

      • Starred file widgets

      • Starred image widgets

      • The client’s Starred area

      • The client’s Recent area

  • These files remain fully hidden from the client.

This ensures that hidden content never leaks into visible areas.

Best Practices

  • Use Full Access for collaboration folders.

  • Use View Only for final deliverables.

  • Use Hidden for internal work, drafts, or prep files.

  • Use Starred files to surface key items for clients—outside of hidden folders.
