File Sorting in the File Manager

Written by Connor Bearse

The File Manager gives you full control over how files are organized and displayed for your clients. This ensures your clients always see files in a clear, intentional order - without the ability to accidentally change it.

Available Sorting Options

You can sort files in three different ways:

1. Sort by Name

  • Files are ordered alphabetically.

  • You can choose:

    • Ascending (A β†’ Z)

    • Descending (Z β†’ A)

2. Sort by Upload Date

  • Files are ordered by when they were uploaded.

  • You can choose:

    • Newest first

    • Oldest first

3. Custom Order (Drag & Drop)

  • Files can be manually reordered using drag and drop.

  • This allows you to choose the exact order your client sees.

  • This is ideal for workflows, deliverables, or step-by-step resources.

Important: Clients cannot change sorting. The order you set is always the order they see.

Special Areas in the File Manager

Some areas of the File Manager have fixed sorting behavior:

Starred Files

  • The Starred area has its own independent order.

  • Files here are always sorted using drag and drop.

  • This lets you highlight important files without affecting the main folder order.

Recent Files

  • The Recent area always shows files in descending upload order.

  • The newest files appear first.

  • This order cannot be changed.

Summary

  • You control all file sorting.

  • Clients cannot modify the order.

  • Starred and Recent views have fixed, intentional behavior to keep things predictable.
